As you know, there are many crimes everyday. On the other hand, there are some false crimes. In Japan, gropers are major as false crimes. In my opinion as an woman, I hate gropers. I don't want them to grope on the purpose of sexual meaning. But, I know I don't have to dislike men meaninglessly and I have to hear their's opinions. So, I tried to search about the case of people who was arrested as a groper by mistake. Look at this article.
I looked for articles about the opinions of victims of groper through the Internet, but I couldn't find good resources. There are many sources about false crimes or the way in avoiding being arrested by mistakes. This result shows that many men worried about being arrested as gropers by mistakes.
As one way to come to existence of groper, some railway companies have trains which is allowed to ride only for women.But, these trains for women have been controversial since that plan had been practiced. There are agreement and disagreement about this action. I will tell you about them.
Agreement: Many women feels relief for this train and it makes groper not to do wrong thing.
Disagreement; Men think it is one of race discrimination. It is also natural that other trains are more crowded than a special train. Many people think it not so good and irritating.
Problems surrounding groper and women are becoming more complicated like all above. And recently, there are many people are more interested in false crimes, especially in groper. Then let's look at this movie.
Through this article and movie, I want to hear your opinion at the sides of both men and women.

ReplyDeleteJapan is the only country that is so paranoid about groping and being groped. Too much self-consciousness if you ask me, and very troublesome for innocent males.
On the other hand, the disagreement with the female only train cars on behalf of sexist discrimination makes no sense really. If there is an all-women train car, then you can consider the other train cars all-men. The train cars can simply be organized to allow for some sex specific cars with a few non-specific cars for flexibility. I don't seem a problem with this division at all.
However, going back to my first point, the paranoia behind the groping and mooning and all of that is just too intense in Japan. What's the damn difference between a bag brushing your arse and and a hand accidentally brushing your arse? Not much if you ask me. It just happens sometimes, and I hate imagining the idea of taking several hours of my precious time dealing with customs at the police station because of a paranoid girl.

ReplyDeleteI think that introducin an all-women train is good for both mea and women, because men would never be arrested as groupers and women would feel relief as you say. However, I also think it is little exaggerated.
By the way, I've never seen this kind of trains since I came to Tokyo. I know there are all-women trains, but I don't know how they are. When can I see it? Is it possible that all-women train cars are uncrowded when other nomal train cars are crowded
I think the problem is that a train is a closed place where both men and women are all crammed inside together, it is impossible to not be aware of each other. Such problems about groping may be a secondary-product of Japan's railway system.
ReplyDeleteCompletely dividing men and women could be the quickest way to get lost of these problems-there can't be any sexual problems if a man and woman were not in the same room in the first place.
